When The London Distillery Company first opened its doors, it did so with a clear sense of purpose. For more than a century, whisky making had all but vanished from the capital, yet London’s distilling connection ran deep. TLDC’s founders wanted to reconnect with that legacy, creating whisky that was unmistakably London in both origin and character.
A decade ago, the company laid down some of its earliest casks, including ex-bourbon barrel #007. Few could have predicted that this unassuming cask would one day become Ten Times Around the Sun – London’s first 10-year-old single malt whisky and a milestone release for the city’s modern whisky scene.
Bringing Ten Times Around the Sun to life began long before cask #007 was bottled. For this historic single malt, we carefully selected from the oldest surviving casks in our warehouse – those laid down during the distillery’s earliest years, before the unexpected closure in 2019. Each cask was assessed not just for its age, but for the flavour story it could tell – the unique balance of character, depth, and nuance that had developed over a full decade of maturation.
Ex-bourbon barrel #007 immediately stood out (and not just for its iconic number in our “Bond-ed” warehouse!). It had matured with grace, preserving the original distillate character while developing richness, complexity, and a bright, fruit-forward profile that made it perfect for this milestone release. In selecting this cask, we were looking for a whisky that could capture the full arc of TLDC’s journey – a story of ambition, resilience, and revival – but at its core, something that simply tastes incredible.
Ten Times Around the Sun is a testament to determination and perseverance. Cask #007 has seen London’s whisky landscape evolve around it, surviving the distillery’s closure, and now emerging as a symbol of our resilience.
